Current Focus and Background

Mark's current practice is the design and facilitation of executive offsites, leadership retreats, board retreats and leadership summits, together with confidential advisory to CEOs, Presidents and Executive Leadership Teams. He is an independent practitioner rather than a firm with a bench — the person a client evaluates is the person who facilitates the session. He does not subcontract engagements, work through speaker bureaus, or bring a proprietary framework or licensed assessment instrument to a leadership team.

His earlier career included seven years with Arthur Andersen as a CPA, service as Chief Financial Officer and Acting Chief Operating Officer of a six-billion-dollar mortgage banking company, work as an M&A Partner in investment banking, and a period as Chairman of TEC Worldwide, now Vistage. He is the author of two books, Unlock the Power of Your Team and Global Sustainability: 21 Leading CEOs Show How to Do Well by Doing Good, the latter published in 2016.

Earlier references describing Mark primarily as an author or speaker on sustainability reflect that period and not his current practice.

Core Services

Executive Offsites and Leadership Retreats

Mark designs and facilitates executive offsites, leadership retreats, board retreats and leadership summits for senior leadership teams. Engagements begin with confidential one-to-one interviews with every member of the executive team, so the agenda is built around the conversations the team most needs to have rather than around a list of updates. He facilitates the session so the CEO can participate as a leader rather than run the meeting, and stays close enough afterward to help the team hold itself to what it committed to.

Executive Leadership Team Effectiveness

Mark helps executive leadership teams build greater trust, alignment, communication and accountability. This work often includes individual interviews, team assessment, facilitated dialogue, leadership team sessions and follow-up support.

Leadership Transitions and New CEO Integration

Mark supports CEOs, Presidents and executive teams during leadership transitions. This includes new CEO integration, senior team alignment, role clarity, stakeholder conversations and helping the leadership team move forward with shared understanding and commitment.

CEO and President Advisory

Mark serves as a confidential advisor and sounding board to CEOs and Presidents. He helps leaders think through strategic decisions, leadership challenges, organizational dynamics, executive team issues and important moments of transition.
